Skills and Innovation Competition Promoting Vocational Education

[Rangpur, Bangladesh] - Accelerating and Strengthening Skills for Economic Transformation (ASSET) is pleased to announce the innovative competition, titled, Skills and Innovation Competition 2023, in collaboration with the Directorate of Technical Education, Department of Technical and Madrasa Education, Ministry of Education. The event took place at Dinajpur District Art Academy on 16th March 2024.Besides, a spectacular rally, a prize distribution function along with a seminar on the importance of technical education was organised. 

The Asset Skills and Innovation Competition 2023 aims to highlight the proficiency and talents of Bangladesh's skilled workforce across various technical disciplines. As part of our commitment to promoting vocational education and skill enhancement, this event recognizes its significance in driving economic growth and societal development.

Participants from diverse backgrounds competed in skill-based challenges, providing a platform for them to showcase their expertise and creativity in their respective fields.  Esteemed officials and experts in technical education were present to offer insights into the importance of skill development initiatives in shaping the future workforce.

The Honorable Secretary of Technical and Madrasa Education Department of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Farid Uddin Ahmad has attended the event as chief guest. Additionally, Dr. MD Sirajul Islam, Additional Secretary, Technical and Madrasa Education Department, Ministry of Education; Mr. Md. Abu Momtaz Saaduddin Ahmed, Project Director, Additional Sectary; Mr. Md. Abdur Rahim, Additional Project Director, ASSET Project and Mr. Shakil Ahmed, District Commissioner, Dinajpur; Mr. Khandaker MD. Nahid Hasan, Regional Director, Rangpur; Mr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, secretary (Deputy Secretary) BTEB were present as special guest.

The event was presided over by Mr. Md. Aziz Taher Khan, Director General, Directorate of Technical Education. 

With 37 projects from 13 technical institutions in Rangpur region, 5 winners were selected at the institutional level. The winners were later declared by the Honourable Secretary of Technical and Madrasa Education Department of the Ministry of Education, Farid Uddin Ahmad, with Dinajpur Polytechnic Institute taking first place for Smart Hospital Service. The second winner was Lalmonirhat Govt. Technical School and College for the invention of Smart Irrigation Pump Switch project. Third winner was Dinajpur Govt. Technical School and College for Home Appliance Control through SMS and Remote. Moreover, the forth and fifth winner were Dinajpur Polytechnic Institute for the invention of Plasma Sterilizer and Dinajpur Technical School and College for the invention of Student’s Attendance Procedure through RFID respectively.

The presence of all potential competitors and esteemed guests underscored the significance of the Asset Skills and Innovation Competition 2023 in promoting skill development and its role in shaping the future of the workforce.
